Keeping mosquitoes away naturally

The number of Zika cases in Singapore is alarming. Dengue is already bad, now there's Zika to worry about. To make things worst, we are approaching haze season too and hand-foot-mouth disease has just hit my kid's pre-school. Looking at my oil larder, there are a few oils such as Citronella, Lemongrass, Purification blend that should help to keep mosquitoes away (apply liberally on the body) and also keep the air free of pathogens (when diffused).  Purification particularly stops mosquito itches quite effectively, so it's one of our favourite oils at home. I'd rather use natural remedies to keep mozzies away than to rely chemicals like insecticides.

To prevent mosquitoes from breeding in the drains and plants at home, mix some cinnamon oil with water and spray around the house. If you have a herb garden, make sure you grow more garlic, basil, rosemary, lemon balm, catnip, mint and peppermint, as these plants will keep mosquitoes away.  I place my herbs near to the windows for a great aroma and also to keep mozzies out without keeping shutting all the windows.

Here is a natural mosquito repellent remedy. 

Ingredients

• 2TBSP Jojoba oil
• 12 drops Lemongrass essential oil
• 6 drops eucalyptus essential oil
• 2 drops citronella essential oil
• Alternatively, replace with 20 drops of Purification essential oil blend

Directions

• Mix all the oils together in a dark colour glass bottle
• Pour a few drops and rub all over exposed body parts if you are going outdoors
